EP review: Dead set disorder - Zero

Dead Set Disorder is a new rock band to emerge from Northampton and Milton Keynes. The four-piece’s energetic and fiery music stems from an antipathy and aversion towards “The established systems of power…” The band has set out with an intention and determination to galvanise the masses out of their state of inertia and unite for change.
The bands 3 track EP – Zero delivers this message successfully with some heart felt gutsy lyrics and meaty guitar riffs all backed up by some pretty brutal Rhythm and Bass.
The opener “Rise” is a good example of this with lead vocalist Dan Moloney belting out the chorus You are the heartbeat, you are the life-force / you’re in control if you want… to be. So rise yourself up, set yourself free.” An effective message that when paired with the bands energy and vigor creates something rousing and powerful. What I really like about this track is that after only a couple of listens the chorus has an immediate ‘sing back’ quality which enforces the bands desire for a sense of cohesion and change. This is my personal favourite.
The next offering “Your Sanctuary (Is My Prison)” sees the guys deliver a ‘meat and two veg’ track, combining all the necessary ingredients to make for a simple (but enjoyable!), classic, angst-felt rock song. Moloney delivers another infectious chorus “It’s time to light the world again… and take an equal part.” With lyrics that stay true to the bands main ethos. Guitarist Andy Simmons and Bassist Tom Simpson give us some catchy riffs which make the song easily memorable. These are then paired with some much heavier beats from drummer Baz Woodsford, which helps to create the feisty, spirited feeling.
The last song on their EP “R+Evolution” is possibly the heaviest song, with Woodsford and Simpson giving the drums and bass an absolute thrashing – which I love. The lyrics act as a battle cry and plea “This crusade’s in vain just like the ones that came before.” And “This is a war/ you’re on a battle ground.” It’s a song you have to head bang to and throw your hands up in the air for, in fact I defy you not to move about a bit. The thing that sets this song on fire though is the face-melting guitar solo from Simmons.

All three songs on this EP are tight and offer a good insight into what this band are all about. These guys are definitely building up momentum so if you’re into rock music that offers a little more substance and meaning, these guys are for you!
